John Johnson has more than 30 years’ experience in production agriculture in a broad range of agricultural settings. He was appointed by President George W. Bush as Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs at the Farm Service Agency and administered the nation’s farm subsidy programs, disaster assistance programs and the Conservation Reserve Program for seven years. Following his time at USDA, he served for more than 10 years at the National Pork Board in Des Moines, IA, where he served as chief operating officer. He now serves as a consultant to food and agriculture interests, primarily in the area of sustainability.
