Dr. Michael Doherty is currently a senior scientist in the Health Effects Division of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Pesticide Programs. Prior to joining the EPA in 1998, Dr. Doherty worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service, investigating the fate of pesticides in the environment under different agronomic practices. He received his Master of Science and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Maryland, where his research focused on the environmental toxicology of agricultural contaminants and on the biochemical effects of pesticide mixtures. In his work at EPA, Dr. Doherty has authored numerous residue chemistry evaluation and human health risk assessments and provided technical training to groups within the U.S. Government and to international audiences. He is a member of the OECD’s Residue Chemistry Expert Group dealing with pesticides and has served as an expert of the FAO panel for the Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues since 2013.
