Daniel Markowski, Ph.D. is a graduate of Memphis State University (Bachelor of Science in biology) and the University of Rhode Island (Master of Science in zoology and a Ph.D. in biological sciences). He has been involved in pest control practices since the mid 1980’s. He has directed vector management programs throughout the country, including New York City’s Vector Control Program in 2001 and 2002 before accepting a position as IPM director (and eventually vice-president of aerial operations) within Vector Disease Control International (VDCI). In NYC, his primary duties were to coordinate all of the City’s mosquito control efforts. In addition to his mosquito control responsibilities, Dr. Markowski was temporarily reassigned after the World Trade Center terrorist attacks as he coordinated all of the Department of Health’s activities at ground zero with a multitude of city, state, and federal agencies. As an employee of the NYCDOHMH, he also became involved in several anti-bioterrorism initiatives.

Dr. Markowski has also been involved with research on some of the latest mosquito surveillance and control equipment and chemicals to ensure that the mosquito control industry has the most efficient, environmentally sensitive, and efficacious products possible. As a former North Atlantic regional director for the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA) and member in several state associations, he has been able to relay this information to the various agencies he represents, as well as work to further promote and support the mosquito control industry. Dr. Markowski has been actively involved with joint research projects with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Field Museum in Chicago, and various research institutions around the country. Additionally, he has consulted with various mosquito control programs throughout the United States, Canada, and the Caribbean.
