Donald Wilbur has been with the Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) at the Environmental Protection Agency since 2006. He is currently the Division Director of the Biological and Economic Analysis Division (BEAD) where he leads a division of about 60 staff. BEAD is responsible for providing pesticide use-related information and benefit/economic analyses in support of regulatory activities. This information is utilized by OPP to evaluate potential exposures, the need for various pesticides, and the potential economic impacts of regulatory decisions. Additionally, Donald directs BEAD's laboratories located in Fort Meade, Maryland, which validate analytical methods for pesticide residues, test public health antimicrobials to ensure that they work as intended, and provide technical assistance to support state and federal compliance activities. Prior to joining BEAD, Donald was the Deputy Director of the Health Effects Division (HED) for 6 years where he was responsible for overseeing the production of human health risk assessments for conventional pesticides. He “grew up” in HED and was a senior residue chemist/dietary exposure assessor and Branch Chief before becoming Deputy Director. Don holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Alfred University and a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Buffalo.
