Speaker Bio
Daniel Markowski, Ph.D. is a graduate of Memphis State University (Bachelor of Science in biology) and the University of Rhode Island (Master of Science in zoology; Ph.D. in biological sciences). He has directed and been involved in general pest and vector management programs throughout the country for over 25 years. In 2003, he began working with Vector Disease Control International (VDCI). Over the years, he has overseen all aspects of a vector management program, from the program’s inception to the elimination of risk.

While managing all of VDCI’s ground-based vector surveillance and control programs, Dr. Markowski was on the front lines of the nation’s various mosquito-borne disease outbreaks from West Nile virus in multiple to states to Zika virus in the Caribbean and worked with local agencies to quell the outbreaks. In his capacity as an aerial division manager, he has coordinated aerial responses to every major hurricane event in the U.S. since 2004, in addition to numerous disease outbreaks throughout the U.S. And despite all the mosquito work, he’s found a way to keep his hands in the tick world by establishing several small tick surveillance and management programs in the Northeast. In the spring of 2022, he left VDCI and has become the technical advisor for the American Mosquito Control Association (AMCA). In this new capacity, he will represent the Association’s members on all operational, technical, legislative, and regulatory matters related to the vector surveillance and control industry.
